The Maggi diet is a low-calorie diet for weight loss, designed for 4 weeks.The daily diet includes foods rich in proteins and the consumption of fats and carbohydrates is limited.
The name of the diet comes from the name Margaret, since the nutritional plan was created by specialists from the Mayo Clinic specifically for Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in the eighties of the 20th century.
There are two dietary options: the egg diet (based on the consumption of eggs, fruits, vegetables and meat) and the cottage cheese diet (“dacha”).The Maggi cottage cheese diet is used for allergies to chicken eggs and involves replacing each egg with 100 g of cottage cheese.
Dietary rules

If you follow all the rules of the diet, you can lose 3 to 5 kilograms per week.As a rule, during the first week, weight is lost due to the reduction of swelling and the release of excess water from the body, so the weight loss process may slow down.
To make the Maggi egg diet for 4 weeks more effective, you should adhere to the following recommendations for organizing dietary nutrition:

- Do not consume sugar in any form.
- Include in the menu only the foods allowed in the diet and do not interrupt the sequence of meals.
- During the day you need to drink at least 1.5 liters of water, including unsweetened tea and coffee.

Abandon the diet
A long-term low-calorie diet is a serious burden on the body, so at the end of the fourth week the subsequent feeding should be properly organized.
After completing the Maggi diet, like other carbohydrate-restricted eating plans, the likelihood of overeating with starchy and sugary foods increases.
To avoid overeating after a diet, it is necessary to include foods in the diet according to the following principle:
- every 3 days increase the amount of slow carbohydrate foods (buckwheat, bulgur, quinoa, bean bran, wholemeal rye bread) by 20-25 g, until the total weight of carbohydrate foods reaches 250-200 g per day;
- the amount of non-starchy vegetables should be half of the total daily diet;
- Every day you can eat one large fruit or berry in the amount of 100 g;
- do not include sweets in your diet, since during the diet the body weaned itself from sweets, so you should not form an addiction again;
- eat 3-4 times a day and minimize the number of snacks at other times;
- do not eat 3 hours before going to sleep.
Contraindications
Since the Maggi diet consists of a large number of protein products, which create additional stress on the functioning of the kidneys and liver, this diet should not be used by people with pathologies such as:
- renal failure;
- increased levels of uric acid in the blood;gout.
Also, the Maggi diet should not be used for eating disorders (ED), i.e. for people prone to anorexia, bulimia and compulsive overeating, as low-calorie eating can aggravate the problem of eating disorders.
